Project Overview

The Jefferson County Parks and Recreation Department currently offers a BMX practice track at H.J. Carroll Park in Chimacum, Washington. This track is open to the public and is available for riding during regular park hours. The goal of this initiative would be to create a new and improved BMX track that would be sanctioned by the American Bicycle Association (ABA) and be utilized for racing, as well as general public enjoyment.

The sport of Bicycle Motocross (BMX) racing is fast becoming one of the most popular sports in the U.S. and Canada. With riders as young as 3 and up into their 50s, BMX is truly a family sport for all ages.

Beginners are always welcomed and encouraged!! If you can make it around the track, you can race - AND THE KIDS JUST LOVE IT!

The State of Washington is a great place to be a BMXer as there are 11 ABA sanctioned tracks (see links for a list of tracks). The closest track for Jefferson County residents, however, is in Port Angeles, approximately 1 hour away. The distance has made it difficult for the youth of Jefferson County to participate in this great sport. While there are a few who travel the distance, we believe Jefferson County residents would be better served with our very own BMX racing track within Jefferson County. As one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S. and Canada, and mostly in rural areas, we believe that a BMX racing track would prove a great addition to the already awesome Parks and Recreation Department's lineup of sports and recreational activities offered throughout Jefferson County.

If you would like to support this initiative to turn the chimacumbmx track at H.J. Carroll Park into an ABA sanctioned race track, please contact us. As this process continues, we will be in need of volunteers to help prepare the track, operate the gate, help maintain the track, sign up new riders, keep score, etc. We will also be seeking out donations of materials (fencing, dirt, building materials, labor, etc.) and money to make this a top notch BMX racing facility where families will feel comfortable and excited about participating.
